Christian Young Couple Beaten and Burned Alive
A Message from Sam Gill, Founder and Director, NHCMP:
The Plight of Christianity in Pakistan
Matthew 5:11-12
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice
and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same
way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
Once
again, another brutal event happened, in Pakistan, nearly 37 miles, or
60 kilometers, from Southwest Lahore, the capital of Punjab (a province,
in Pakistan). This is the story of a young Christian couple, who were
both workers in the Brick Kiln Factory, as slaves, under a Landlord.
They had been working there, for a decade. According to
Sarfraz (his cousin), Shahzad and Shama (5 months pregnant), were
both thinking about quitting their work for their Landlord, because he
was not paying them, enough. When their Landlord owner, Yousuf Gujjar,
found out about this, he increased the demands for repayment on their
loan to $5,000 (they often do this to keep families in their cycles,
working for generations... This is usual in Brick Kiln Factories).
Making Bricks is a back-breaking job. In order to earn $7, Brick Kiln
Workers often have to make 1,000 bricks. Keeping this wage in mind, it
seems impossible for a poor laborer to pay someone $5,000, at once, and
get rid of this job. When the Landlord figured out that he could not
stop them, legally, he decided to plot a conspiracy against their lives.
He picked some men in his posse, and a local Muslim Cleric, to take
revenge: They fabricated a false Blasphemy case against this couple.
The Blasphemy Law is often used to settle personal vendettas. They
falsely accused this couple of burning pages of the Qur'an. A mob came
over, beat this couple, until they were unconscious, dragged them to the
Kiln Factory, and burned them, alive.
Even though the local
Police took notice of this situation, they sent four Policemen to settle
this matter. But Yousuf Gujjar and his posse, along with the mob of
500 did not pay any attention to these men, and burned the couple,
alive. Take note that this woman was pregnant.
According to
authentic resources, it has been proved that this accusation was
fabricated: There was no truth in it, whatsoever.
We ask all
of you believers to pray for the families of this deceased couple, so
God will give them comfort and a heart of forgiveness. We ask that God
will provide them justice
P.S. Our NHCMP Staff just left to visit the families of this deceased couple. We will keep you posted.
